Held with Care is a botanical still life that brings together familiar Australian elements through a quiet, considered composition. A vase of silver wattle, a waratah, banksia and flannel flowers, arranged with intention, sits alongside an Australian fairy wren – one of my favourite birds, and one I used to draw often in my school art classes.

Including the wren in this work became a way of reconnecting with that earlier part of myself. It carries a sense of memory and continuity, linking past and present through something simple and familiar. The painting reflects on small, attentive moments – how the things we choose to notice and hold onto can feel deeply meaningful, shaped by both place and personal history.
