HAPPY NEW YEAR

Hello 2012!

It’s at the beginning of each new year, that most people start making lists of all the things they want to change in their life. Lose weight, save more money, be nicer, smile more, and so on.

But if all we think about is changing ourselves and making new year’s resolutions, we’re in danger of focusing on all the things we think are “wrong” with our lives. And we’d be forgetting something really important – that there are probably lots of things that are “right” in our lives. Things that are cause for celebration, that will help us to start the new year with positivity and excitement!

So here is a bit of a summary of things that were “right” in 2011, and things I’m hoping for in the New Year and beyond…
What made me smile??
Spending time with my hubby and two kids. Seeing them happy is my ultimate happiness!? Going for a walk on a bright sunny morning, strolling along the beach, a picnic in the park.? Planning my next holiday.? Wind in my hair, raindrops on my face, a warm embrace from a loved one.? Watching my family enjoy a meal I’ve cooked for them. Eating delicious, healthy food.? Creating beautifully decorated cupcakes. Writing, singing, reading.
My favourite time of the year:?
The Christmas and New Year period….I love having my kids home from school for 6 whole weeks…spending days at the beach, lazing by the pool at home, eating healthy BBQ dinners and fun outings to the shops or movies or visiting friends. I particularly love our big family get-together on Christmas Day – I’m blessed with a huge family! I also love New Year’s Eve, which is usually spent with family watching the Sydney Harbour fireworks!
One year, I’d love to spend New Year’s Eve in New York…John and the kids would love to do this too, so it’s now on our to-do list 🙂
Some things I love about my life:
I love that I’ve been given a second chance, after being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2009, to live my life to the full, and make the most of every moment. Life is extraordinarily precious to me these days and I no longer waste my time “sweating the small stuff”. I love my life, I love the people I do life with, I love all the places that my life takes me, and I love every life opportunity that comes my way.
An exciting personal goal for 2012:

The Marathon de Paris on 15th April 2012.

Breast cancer research gives me hope for the future…not only for myself, but for my daughter, sisters, nieces and friends. The goal of researchers at the National Breast Cancer Foundation is NO MORE BREAST CANCER DEATHS BY 2030.

For this reason, I am committed to participating in the marathon to raise $10,000 for the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

I’m loving the training, which is helping me to grow in fitness and confidence…each training session bringing me one step closer to believing I could actually cross that finish line. A few months ago I was lucky to be able to walk a kilometre. I’m now walking about 12 kilometres a day, 5 days a week! Who would have thought?

A quote to live by in 2012 and beyond:

“See everything; praise most things; overlook many things; correct few things.”
