Before I write about anything else, it brings me great pleasure to announce the lucky winner of my very first giveaway (which was a $450 Dettol Baking Pack)!!

I used trusty Random.org to pick the winner as follows (please note any lovely commenters who commented more than once only got one entry, sorry):

Congratulations to MSunflower whose winning comment was:

“Ooh, what a package!  You guys are hilarious hehehe!  I would love to win because you inspire me to try baking!  I am a terrible cook but I LOVE decorating sweets…that edible glitter looks like so much fun!!”

MSunflower, I do hope this fun Dettol Baking Pack brings you much joy, as it did my family!!  Keep your eye out for a big box in the mail, full of all these wonderful goodies from the lovely people at Reckitt Benckiser

Well, it was the first day back at school for my kids today.  It’s always a little sad after having such a fun holiday together, to send them off to school.  However, we do have lots of memories to be grateful for.  Memories that are like a dose of joy each time I think of them.  To me, these doses of joy are like medicine to the soul…they heal that little ache you sometimes feel when you’re missing loved ones.

So to give my soul its medicine for that little ache I’m feeling today, I’m going to share some of my holiday memories with all of you.  A list of my “doses of joy”:

  • A walk with the girls at beautiful Cronulla Beach…

  • Brunch at The Nun’s Pool, a hidden gem at South Cronulla, where I had the most delicious “Nun’s Breakfast” which consisted of Sweet Corn Fritters, Sauteed Spinach, Roasted Tomato, Smoked Salmon, Sour Cream and Avocado…

  • Giving my cute little niece the kids’ baking apron & hat I got from Dettol, and seeing how much joy she got out of it!  Check out that face…

  • Baking successful gluten-free cupcakes for a friend with Coeliac disease (wish I could say it was me who found the perfect recipe, but it was actually Basco who found it!)…

  • Jamming with my talented nephew (chuffed that he thinks I sing like a bird – not sure whether that’s good or not!)…
  • Doing the Bay Run (across the Iron Cove Bridge, Drummoyne) with the girls…

  • Cooking “lebo eggs” & other yummy food for two of my nephews and their gorgeous wives…

  • Hanging out discussing our itinerary for an upcoming trip to America with our travelling partners in front of a warm fire…

  • Dinner with great friends at Emma’s on Liberty at Enmore, where I enjoyed Lebanese food, the closest to my Mum’s home cooking, that I’d ever tasted…

  • A train ride into the city with my hubby, to help us get in the mood for the New York subway in a few months time.  As we walked along George Street, we were tempted by cupcakes on both sides of the street, with the very appealing Cupcake Bakery and its giant cupcakes lining the top shelf of their window display.  But it was the chic-looking Ghermez Cupcakes that we couldn’t resist.  Check out their cute sign that says their cupcakes are 50% fat free (that is, if you share half with someone)!  We just had to try their Red Velvet Cupcake – after all, I needed to have something to compare to Magnolia Bakery’s in New York…

  • Visits to the shops with the kids…

  • Being spoilt by an unexpected invite to a friend’s place for lunch…

Do you think it’s possible to overdose on joy?

I reckon it’s worth the risk!! 🙂
