Dance, Sing, Eat Cake by Jennifer Reid

The Easter long weekend is always wonderful – I love family traditions and spending time together. From the youngest member of the family to the oldest, we have a great time whenever we’re together and always find it hard to say goodbye at the end of the day.

My family is very musical, so there is usually lots of singing involved, often lots of dancing and always enormous amounts of food.

Mum had an amazing Good Friday lunch prepared for us as she does every year and although she insists that we don’t bring anything, my daughter and I made some biscuits to take  … we used Mum’s special recipe and I’m proud to report they turned out delicious and even got her tick of approval!

The whole process brought back so many lovely memories…of baking with Mum and baking with my daughter when she was little.  Baking is such a simple act but it’s at special times of family tradition that it has a sentimental value that is priceless.

The first crunch of one of those biscuits seemed to be quite magical actually, transporting me through time back to childhood memories, family traditions and unforgettable gatherings.

Who knew a simple biscuit could be so special?
