Namaste by Jennifer Reid
Do you ever get into a slump when your mind feels overwhelmed or just blank? You really don’t feel as creative as you normally do? We’re all human and I believe we all go through these times. It’s okay. I think it’s our bodies telling us to slow down, take a break from what we’re doing and reconnect to our creative souls. Whenever I’m having a really busy week, I look forward to taking time away from my screen and reconnecting with nature. Here are a few ways I like to lift my mood and boost my creative energy:
01 Disconnect to Reconnect
Get outside and feel the grass between your toes or go for a walk. It’s all about grounding and connecting with nature. Wherever you live, whether it’s by the beach, near a park, or in the bush. Or even if you don’t live in a place that has lots of open space, just step out into your garden or on to your balcony. Get outdoors and breathe in the fresh air. Be inspired by the colours in nature, all the noises and the patterns surrounding you. Inspiration is actually everywhere – but only if you take the time out to notice it.
02 Treat Yourself
Doing something as simple as grabbing a coffee from your local cafe (and maybe some cake) really helps you to reconnect with yourself. As you get out and watch the world go by, do some people watching and give your eyes some much-needed rest from your screen, you give yourself a chance to smile. Really, give it a try. The simplest of things can bring so much happiness.
03 Experiment
There are so many ways to be ‘creative’. Why not give journaling a try? Or maybe painting, cooking, lino printing, pottery, even learn a musical instrument (the sky’s the limit).
04 Practice Self-care
Be kind to yourself. If you don’t take care of yourself, then how can you take care of anyone else? Read a good book, take a nap, hide in a quiet spot to meditate, give yourself a facial. Whatever makes you feel good, go and do it.
05 Hang With Other Creatives
Creative spaces like art galleries and exhibitions are a great way of surrounding yourself with creative energy. But since some of us can’t do that during Covid lockdown (which is the case right now where I live) then why not hang with some creatives online? Organise a zoom call with your creative friends – the ones you know have a positive energy that lifts you up. Creative energy is infectious and when you’re surrounded by that type of energy, I guarantee it will fill you up.
Hope some of these things help in boosting your creative energy whenever you’re in a slump. I’d love to hear if you tried some of them for yourself, or if you have any tips you might share. How do you boost your creative energy?
